Underground Water Tank Installation Instructions for Installation of SMART Septic Tanks

Site Preparation:

  • Finalize the location of installation with focus on suitability of excavation with suitable margins.
  • The location of the Septic Tank should be suitable to receive from the sewer lines and dispose of the outlet water to soak pits.

Excavation of the site:

  • Width and the length of the excavation shall be 12" to 18" greater than the Tank dimensions on all sides
  • Depth of the excavation shall be 6" more than the Tank height / diameter
  • Level the bottom of the trench with granular material like gravel / sand in case it is not Concrete
  • Ensure uniform compaction of the bed, and it is level.
  • Native material may be used to bed the tank providing it is properly placed and compacted

Tank Installation:

  • Prepare the tank for installation. Identify the inlet and outlet ends of the tank. Inlet and outlet are located on both ends provided with Standard PVC Fittings.
  • Ensure the PVC fittings are reasonably fastened (since rubber gaskets are provided slight movement is observed)
  • The Lids are push fit lids with rubber gaskets with rust proof stainless steel fasteners for firm fittings. Inspect the above and ensure they are in tact.
  • Place the tank in the trench with the inlet suitable to receive the waste water from the pipeline.
  • Connect the inlet to the sewer pipeline for receiving the waste.
  • Fill the Septic Tank with water till it over flows through the outlet.

Precautions:

  • Ensure that the water filled Septic Tank is supported uniformly at the bottom.
  • Check for stress free piping at the inlet point. Once the above requirements are fulfilled the tank may be connected from the outlet to the soak pit / percolation pit.
  • The air vent maybe lifted to reasonable height for smooth working of the Septic Tank

Backfill:

  • Backfill in an alternating method around the tank using native material free of debris, sharp stones. Soil must flow freely into corrugations between the tank ribs, including midpoint to belly of tank.
  • Reasonable side wall compression is required to provide sidewall restraint after covering the tank.
  • The tank may be filled on the top between the risers

Warnings:

  • Tanks are designed for underground usage only
  • Tanks are not rated for vehicular traffic. Avoid operation of Vehicles over the Tank
  • In case of Vehicles are moving over Tank a Concrete Slab is recommended between 75mm and 100mm
  • Internal water temperatures should not exceed 65°C
